Definition: 

Ventral part of frons below insertion of antennae ('face').

Character evolution: 

The lower margin of the prefrons (epistoma) is warped forward in Leptometopa, Litometopa, Madiza, Paramyia, and Xenophyllomyza. In Leptometopa the epistoma is triangular and nearly meets the long lunule dorsally.head, frontal, SEM
