Seta on frontal plate

Frontal seta

Definition:

Seta on frontal plate

Character evolution:

In the stem-species pattern of the Milichiidae there are apomorphically two medioclinate frontal setae. These frontal setae are not homologous with the medioclinate setae on the frons of the carnid genera Hemeromyia, Meoneura, and Carnus, because the medioclinate setae in Carnidae are orbital setae.
Within the Milichiidae, three frontal setae are an apomorphy for the stem-species of Pholeomyia. In the Milichia speciosa-group the frontal setae are lost (from Brake 2000).
