Females of Paramyia nitens are kleptoparasitic on spiders and reduviids. The biology of the other species is largely unknown, except for P. hungarica, which has been collected on fermenting fruit bait, and P. inconspicua, which has been collected on forest detritus
Crossvein dm-cu absent; medioreclinate posterior orbital seta present.
Species can be found worldwide, but the highest diversity seem to occur in the paleotropics.
Several species having been collected in or at the edge of rain forests.
